I am 17 years old and a junior in highschool. I live right outside of atlanta and i am seriously considering getting sisterlocks. I've done very extensive research on the locks and came accross one of your pictures on bing.com. I emediatly fell in love with your hair. As a teenage artist in a world of smalltown african americans(too high and mighty to be "black"), i do not fit in. At the age of 18 months old my mother and aunt took me to get a relaxer. I always hated it. I had no choice in the matter. For the last 2 or 3 years i've been struggling with trying to grow out my relaxer. 5 or 6 months go by and my hair is un-managable. It's extreamly thick and curly. So as a result i am forced to relax it. When i found out about sisterlocks i knew that this was the answer to all my hair problems. I was so excited and showed my mother all of my findings. She said no without question, not bothering to even look at the website. Im extreamly discuraged by this. Can anyone give me any information, websites, or testimonials that might help me to convince her that this is a better solution than geting my hair relaxed every 4 weeks?

I am considering getting Sisterlocks and the price is sooooooooo expensive. I have been natural for over 8 years wearing the two strand twist. My hair is long and it takes me up to 5 hours or more every two weeks. So far, all the certified stylist I've talked with, tells me it will cost from $500.oo - $1,000.00. I do not understand why it's so expensive when it is my natural hair. Could somebody help me understand?

Your sisterlocks are beautiful! I got my sisterlocks installed almost a year ago and they are the best thing I have ever done for my hair. I don't get too many comments yet, but I feel like I am no longer a slave to my hair. I don't have to live in fear of it getting wet or losing my hairstyle. I can't wait until they are as long as yours. Keep being an inspiration to sisters everywhere!

I asked my consultant about it years ago, and basically to enjoy the full benefits if thinner more easily styled SisterLocks, you would actually have to start pretty much from scratch.

I've also heard of some women opting to have their traditional locks professionally removed (this involves quite a bit of shedding but probably not as dramatic as just whacking a whole head of hair off of your head), and then starting from there.

I hope this helps Wendy!

(sorry for the delay, we've been moving)
